BROWSE CATDV SUPPORT MANUALS

This function copies an asset to StorNext and deletes the original from storage.

  • A clip or set of clips is chosen in CatDV and ‘Archive To StorNext’ chosen from the Tools or right click menus.
  • The Archive Additions check that the original asset is on line, is a suitable asset to be archived and hasn’t already been archived. Valid and invalid requests are summarised so that appropriate action can be taken.
  • Pressing ‘Submit’ publishes the archive request to CatDV Server (after making sure the CatDV catalog has been saved.
  • The CatDV Worker detects the request and starts communication with StorNext to perform the archive.
  • The assets are moved from primary storage and will be written to tape according to the StorNext policy, current tape activity and the number of drives present.
  • CatDV will be updated with the archive status as “Archive Requested”, “Archived”,”Archived D”, “Archived DT” or “On Tape <TAPE NUMBER>”. Transitions between these states are also recorded in “Status History”.
  • Once the archive has been reported as successful by StorNext, the CatDV Worker will delete the original asset from storage. If the CatDV Worker does not have permission to delete the asset it will mark the clip’s status history to ‘Archived To Tape – Manual Delete Required’. The archivist can then delete those files manually.

The Worker task activity is brief for all archive related functions as the Archive Additions run as separate programs which monitor each process and report between CatDV Server and StorNext. A reserved metadata field within CatDV is used to trigger archive related events.

Note that the CatDV client data may need to be refreshed to receive the archive status update (Server – Refresh Window).
