Working with HDV Files

HDV was a prosumer HD evolution of DV and now regarded as an obsolete format. It records MPEG-2 video on DV tape, creating an M2TS file. The format is backwards compatible with DV tapes and HDV devices can play back HDV downconverted to DV to equal a standard DV camera output.

Although CatDV will read metadata from M2TS files,  we recommend that the best way to catalog HDV is by downconverting to DV (e.g. using CatDV Live Capture Plus) then recapturing the clips to be edited with at high definition in your edit application.
