Cache-A and CatDV

Cache-A_Logoii

With the Cache-A Prime-Cache or Pro-Cache archive appliance you can easily archive entire media projects to LTO-4 tape.

Simply mount the Cache-A device as you would any other networked attached storage volume and copy files to it, then let the device itself manage the archiving of those files to LTO tape cartridges. At the same time, use CatDV to provide a database of all your archived video clips (complete with low-res proxies, log notes, and other metadata, including which tape they are on) so you can decide which clips you need to restore.

The Integration

Support for Cache-A devices including Cache-A library units is available with CatDV.

Reminder: Cache-A Systems End of Support Announcement

On July 27, 2016 ProMAX System announced the end of life/end of support for several legacy Cache-A products.  This is a reminder that all support for Linux Based Cache-A systems will end on December 31, 2017.

This End of Support announcement affects the following products:

– All Cache-A Pro-Cache Models

– All Cache-A Prime-Cache Models

– All Cache-A Power-Cache Models

– ProMAX Pro-Cache running Cache-A Software 3.4.4 and below.

– ProMAX Power-Cache running Cache-A Software 3.4.4 and below.

NOTE: This will affect ALL units running Linux CentOS based Cache-A software version 3.4.4 and below.

What does “End of Support” mean for these units?

ProMAX will no longer offer troubleshooting, hardware service, and support assistance for the affected units. There will be no future software or security updates distributed for these units and all remote activation/update abilities will no longer be available after 12/31/2016. New support plans and extensions of currently existing support plans will no longer be offered. Single incident support will continue to be available until the final end of support date of December 31, 2017. All currently existing support plans on these affected units, regardless of length, will terminate on December 31, 2017.

What is replacing these units?

ProMAX will continue to produce the ProMAX Platform Pro-Cache system as a stand-alone archive device using the ProMAX Platform software. These units will also support full integration with our Platform line of Workflow Server products for networked environments. Existing Cache-A tapes and catalogs will be compatible with the new version of the Platform Pro-Cache AND all Platform LTO configurations.

How will this affect my existing LTO tapes and catalog?

ProMAX Platform products, including the new version of the Platform Pro-Cache, will have the ability to read both TAR and LTFS tapes, as well as import catalogs created by legacy Cache-A units.

What are my options?

If you wish to discuss options for upgrading to a new Pro-Cache unit, please contact your reseller or ProMAX Systems.
