SUPERSTAR SINGERS, BODY BUILDERS AND ENERGY GIANTS MANAGE PRECIOUS ASSETS WITH CATDV (NAB Booth SL5025)

Stratford-upon-Avon, UK, April 2, 2014 – Square Box Systems (www.squarebox.com), developer of leading asset management system CatDV, today revealed details of how CatDV is being used to support content creation across a wide variety of industries and market sectors, with customers reporting significant time savings and productivity advantages. Square Box is showing its full Cat DV asset management range at NAB 2014, Las Vegas, at Booth #SL5025.

In media and entertainment, Parkwood Entertainment, the US American entertainment and management company founded by superstar singer and actress Beyoncé, leading independent content distributor Cinedigm, Canadian adventure sports and action filmmaker Freeride Entertainment, and video, audio and film media storage specialist Solo Flight Storage, have all invested in CatDV asset management. San Diego video communication agency Emota deploys Square Box’ flagship CatDV Pegasus to import, catalog, tag and add tailored metadata to RED camera footage.

Beyond Pix, the San Francisco-based creative, production and post production facility is using CatDV to make video production as open and accessible as possible to its staff and clients, including Yahoo, eBay, Amazon, Chevron, NASCAR and Toyota.

“Before CatDV, staff were spending too much time on housekeeping assets than the creative job at hand,” said Andrea Barnett, editor/pipeline specialist at Beyond Pix. “Due to the previous asset management routine we had in place, closing out projects and getting them properly archived might have taken two days. Now, thanks to CatDV we can now do three or four projects in a single day.”

As part of its work for energy corporation Chevron, Beyond Pix has catalogued and archived entire productions using CatDV – including stills, RAW camera footage, finals and low-resolution viewing copies. Chevron’s in-house production team can search all of this media, and make requests, remotely via CatDV WebClient. “They have one of the fastest and easiest ways to keep track of their assets. They can find materials from their own offices, and then send project requests to us via the WebClient,” added Barnett.

Other, high profile, CatDV users include international grocery and convenience store chain Safeway, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, along with Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City and Children’s Healthcare Of Atlanta, in the medical industry.

As the world’s largest online sports nutrition store, Bodybuilding.com, based in Boise, Idaho, takes health and fitness seriously. Having accumulated more than 100,000 media assets, including 10,000 videos of expert-designed fitness training programs, the publishing giant also takes asset management seriously too – with multiple licenses of CatDV helping to streamline its editorial and archival processes. Recent productions include the eight-week training program titled Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Blueprint, and long-form documentary Jay Cutler’s Living Large, with four-time Mr. Olympia-winner Jay Cutler.

“High-quality, informative videos are a key part of our online offering,” commented Tom Clarke, managing video editor of Bodybuilding.com. “We shoot multiple types of projects relating to the fitness industry. It is important that we can quickly find clips, B-roll, and utilize footage for new and future projects, and CatDV asset management systems are essential to that. At the risk of stretching a metaphor, CatDV really does help us keep our assets in great shape.

In transportation, Norfolk Southern is a premier US freight rail transportation company, operating approximately 20,000 route miles across 22 states in the Eastern US. Its busy and award-wining media department, turns out close to 150 programs a year, with CatDV asset management facilitating a fast and streamlined production and post-production workflow.

“CatDV has made it so simple for us to find, retrieve and deliver footage we need,” says Pamela Tripp, who handles digital asset management and media library duties for Norfolk Southern. “Over time CatDV has saved us thousands of dollars as we no longer have to physically ship materials. Past shoots may not be so fresh in the minds of the editors, and CatDV makes it easy to find and deliver those clips that an off-site editor may need. All I have to do is export them, upload to our FTP site – and that’s that. CatDV has reduced the legwork and expense of delivering footage quite dramatically.”
