Queen’s Award for Innovation

London, 26th April 2012 – UK Software company Square Box Systems has been awarded a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation Category for CatDV, its media asset management and workflow tool for use in video post-production.

The software was designed and written by the founder and CEO, Rolf Howarth. “It is a great honour to win this Queen’s Award, and I am proud to share it with the whole team, all of who have contributed to our growing commercial success.

We have just returned from NAB 2012 in Las Vegas where our booth was constantly busy in the face of huge interest from North America, so I see this award as a step further towards our global growth into new markets in the
immediate period ahead.”

With the move to all-digital tapeless workflow, editors and producers have found themselves struggling to manage the mass of media produced, needing quick access to archived materials including video clips, audio files, and still images.

CatDV provides the tools to log, store, catalogue, search and quickly retrieve media assets as required. A powerful database, capable of integrating with many file formats and editing applications, lies at the heart of the product.
Extensive data from multimedia files can be stored, with thumbnail images and annotations, along with reduced resolution proxy clips for use off line.

Using a cross-platform open-standards policy to allow working across different operating systems and storage devices, it integrates with the leading edit software packages using standard data interchange formats wherever possible to transfer edit information.

CatDV has been recognised with several broadcast industry awards including the Creative COW Blue Ribbon award for innovation two years running, and the Videography Magazine 2010 Vidy award.
