The CatDV Server is written in Java, so you need to ensure you have Java installed on your machine.

Mac OS X / Mac OS X Server

If you use Mac OS X up to and including 10.6 no action is required as Java is automatically installed as part of the operating system. You may want to use Software Update to ensure Java is up to date.

If you use Mac OS X 10.7 or later then the first time you run an application that requires Java you will be prompted automatically to download and install it.

Windows

Download the lastest Java SE SDK from Oracle.com. (just Google “Java JDK download”) and follow the installation instructions accepting all defaults.

(Note: while the CatDV Workgroup Server is compatible with both the JRE runtime environment and the JDK development kit, it is better to install the JDK in case you want to use the Live HTML Publisher.)

Assuming you installed Java to the daefault directory such as:

C:Program FilesJavajdk1.6.0_27

then add the corresponding bin directory:

C:Program FilesJavajdk1.6.0_27bin

to your PATH using:

My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables > System Variables

Generic Unix/Linux

Java is likely to be pre-installed in /usr/java as part of the operating system. If not, please visit http://java.sun.com and download the J2SE Development Kit for your platform.
